Mega Millions jackpot jumps to $185,000,000 Friday night; One player won the second prize

The Mega Millions multi-state lottery jackpot jumped to $185,000,000 (cash option $$88.4 million) Friday night when there were no jackpot winning tickets in the $169,000,000 drawing, lottery officials said. The numbers from Tuesday night, October 15th, 2024 were 22, 34, 44, 54, 62 with Mega Ball number 03 and Megaplier x3.
Though the jackpot was not hit Tuesday evening, some people still walked away with huge prizes. There was only one lucky ticket matched the first 5 lotto numbers but missed Mega Ball number, which won the second prize. The one lucky ticket(s) purchased in MD, each won one quarter million dollar cash by matching all 5 white ball numbers.
Also, 13 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000. Other prizes won Tuesday evening included 226 tickets that matched 4 lotto numbers and won $500. There were 623 tickets that correctly matched 3 white ball numbers as well as the Mega Ball and also won $200.
There were 93,340 Mega Millions winning tickets sold in the state of New York. There were 46670 grand prize winning tickets sold in the state of New York.
With 9 different prize levels, there were 980,128 winning tickets sold across U.S. in the Tuesday, October 15th, 2024 drawing.
Mega Millions game can be played in 43 states and D.C. Mega Millions uses a 5/70 (white balls) + 1/25 (Mega Balls) matrix to randomly choose winning numbers. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to spend 1 extra dollar to buy the Megaplier option, which multiplies the original winnings 2 to 5 times except grand prize. The minimum Mega Millions jackpot is $40,000,000. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal annual installments. Winners may select one-time lump-sum cash payout option instead.
