Friday's Mega Millions jackpot leaps to $515 million; 5 second prize tickets sold

The lottery official announced that the Tuesday, May 18th, 2021, Mega Millions drawing resulted in a carry over, generating an $515 million jackpot for the next drawing Friday. The lump-sum cash payout will be $346.3 million. The numbers from Tuesday night, May 18th, 2021 were 03, 05, 56, 61, 66 with Mega Ball number 04 and Megaplier x2. The Mega Millions jackpot has been rolling over for 791 draws since Friday, October 4th, 2013.A single lucky player from Maryland won the $189 million top prize in Tuesday, October 1st, 2013 drawing.
While the jackpot was not awarded Tuesday evening, some people still walked away with huge pile of cash. There were 5 lucky players that matched all 5 white ball numbers and won the 2nd prize. The 5 second prize winning ticket(s) bought in will collect $1,000,000 cash each.
In addition, 34 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers, as well as the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000. Other prizes won Tuesday evening included 761 tickets that matched four white numbers and won $500. There were 2034 tickets that correctly matched three white ball numbers as well as the Mega Ball and also won $200.
There were 276,756 Mega Millions winning tickets sold in the state of New York. There were 138378 top prize winning tickets sold in the state of New York.
With 9 different prize tiers, there were a total of 3,222,082 winning tickets sold across U.S. in the Tuesday, May 18th, 2021 drawing.
Mega Millions is a consortium of 44 state lotteries. On average, 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back for the players through prizes. About 15% is used to as commission of retailers and lottery operating costs. About 35% total sales is used in government services, education and charities in the member lottery states. Mega Millions drawings occur 2 times a week every Tuesday and Friday at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time. The odds of winning is about 1 to 14. The chances of matching all six Mega Millions numbers are 1 to 302,575,350. The minimum Mega Millions advertised jackpot starts at $40,000,000. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly payments. Winners may select one time lump-sum cash payout option instead.
