Mega Millions jackpot climbs to $311,000,000 Tuesday; Two players matched the first 5 numbers

The Mega Millions lottery grand prize has jumped up to $311,000,000 (cash value $$147 million) for the next drawing in the multistate lottery game Tuesday night. The jackpot amount has been rolled over because nobody hit all 5 lotto numbers plus the Mega Ball number to take the $285,000,000 grand prize Friday night. The numbers from Friday, January 26th, 2024 drawing were 14, 31, 34, 50, 61 with Mega Ball 13 and Megaplier X0. The Mega Millions jackpot has been growing for 14 draws since Tuesday, December 12th, 2023. The last jackpot was won by 2 tickets sold in CA(2), matched all six numbers and split a $395 million top prize.
Although there was no grand prize winner Friday evening, Mega Millions did produce some big winners. There were two tickets that matched the first five numbers and won the 2nd prize. The two second prize winning ticket(s) bought in NY(2) will collect $1,000,000 cash each.
In addition, 14 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers, as well as the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000. Additional prizes won Friday night included 289 tickets that matched four white numbers and won $500. 855 tickets matched 3 of the 5 lotto numbers, as well as the Mega Ball number. These tickets are also each worth $200.
There were 130,902 Mega Millions winning tickets sold in the state of New York. There were 65451 grand prize winning tickets sold in the state of New York. There were 2 lucky New Yorkers matched 4 lotto numbers plus the Mega Ball and won $1,000,000.
With nine different prize levels, there were a total of 1,384,934 winning tickets sold across the nation in the Friday, January 26th, 2024 drawing.
Mega Millions is a consortium involving 44 state lotteries. It holds the record biggest jackpot of $656 million in U.S. lottery history. Around 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back towards the players through prize winnings. Approximately 15% is used to as retailer commissions and lottery operating costs. Around 35% total sales is used to support government services, education and charities in the member states. The minimum Mega Millions grand prize starts at 40 million dollar. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal annual payments. Winners may select one time lump-sum cash payout instead.
