Friday's Mega Millions jackpot jumps to $187,000,000; Two second prize tickets sold

There has been another roll-over in the grand prize for the multistate Mega Millions lottery - to $187,000,000. The cash option will be $$91 million up for grab. The jackpot grew because no player hit all five lotto numbers and the Mega Ball number from Tuesday night's $165,000,000 drawing. The numbers from Tuesday, January 9th, 2024 drawing were 12-15-32-33-53 and the Mega Ball was 24, Megaplier was 3. The Mega Millions grand prize has been growing for nine draws since Tuesday, December 12th, 2023.
Although there was no grand prize winner Tuesday evening, some players still walked away with huge pile of cash. There were two lucky tickets matched all 5 white ball numbers but missed Mega Ball number, which won the second prize. The two lucky ticket(s) bought in CA(2), each won $1,000,000 cash by matching all 5 white ball numbers.
Additional major winners Tuesday night included 12 tickets that matched four white ball numbers plus the Mega Ball and won $10,000. Also, 257 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers. Those tickets are each worth $500. There were 694 tickets that matched 3 white ball numbers plus the Mega Ball and also won $200.
There were 95,508 Mega Millions winning tickets sold in the state of New York. There were 47754 top prize winning tickets sold in the state of New York. No tickets sold in New York matched 4 white ball numbers in addition to the Mega Ball with Megaplier option purchased. These lucky ticket holders will collect $30,000 cash each.
With nine prize tiers, there were 1,084,992 winning tickets sold across the nation in the Tuesday, January 9th, 2024 drawing.
Mega Millions game is played in 43 states and D.C. It holds the record largest jackpot of $656 million in U.S. lottery history. Mega Millions drawings occur every Tuesday and Friday night at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to spend 1 extra dollar to buy the Megaplier, which multiplies the winnings 2 to 5 times except grand prize. The chances of winning is about 1 to 14. The chances of matching all six Mega Millions numbers are about 1 in 302 million. The minimum Mega Millions grand prize is 40 million dollar. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly payments. Winners can select one time lump-sum cash payout instead.
