Friday's Mega Millions jackpot jumps to $42,000,000; Three second prize tickets sold

There were no tickets sold with all 6 numbers in the latest multi-state Mega Millions lottery draw, and the projected grand prize for Friday's drawing will go to $42,000,000, lottery officials announced. The cash value stands at an estimated $$18.8 million. The numbers from Tuesday night, December 31st, 2024 were 13, 22, 27, 29, 35 with Mega Ball 01 and Megaplier X2.
Although the grand prize was not hit Tuesday evening, some people still walked away with huge pile of cash. There were three second prize winners from Tuesday night's drawing, matching the first 5 lotto numbers but not the Mega Ball number. The three lucky ticket(s) purchased in FL,MN,NJ, each won $1,000,000 cash by matching all 5 white ball numbers.
In addition, 7 tickets matched 4 of the 5 lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000. Additional winners Tuesday evening included 465 tickets that matched 4 lotto numbers and won $500. There were 770 tickets that matched three white ball numbers plus the Mega Ball and also won $200.
There were 102,186 Mega Millions winning tickets sold in the state of New York. There were 51093 top prize winning tickets sold in the state of New York.
With nine prize levels, there were 1,118,446 winning tickets sold across U.S. in the Tuesday, December 31st, 2024 drawing.
Mega Millions is a consortium of 44 state lotteries. It holds the record highest jackpot in United States lottery history. Approximately 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back towards the players through prizes. Around 15% is used to as commission of retailers and lottery operating costs. About 35% total sales is used to support government services, education and charities in the participating states. The minimum Mega Millions advertised grand prize is $40 million. Its annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly payments. Winners may choose one-time lump sum cash payout option instead.
