Mega Millions jackpot increases to $28,000,000 Friday, December 15th, 2023; One ticket won the second prize

The Mega Millions jackpot increased since no one matched all six winning numbers from Tuesday night's $20,000,000 drawing. The next grand prize went to $28,000,000 for Friday night's drawing. The cash value will be $$13.3 million. The numbers from Tuesday, December 12th, 2023 drawing were 08-23-44-45-53 and the Mega Ball was 03, Megaplier was 4.

Though the grand prize was not hit Tuesday evening, some people still walked away with huge pile of cash. There was only one lucky winner correctly matched all 5 lotto numbers but missed Mega Ball number, which won the second prize. The one second prize winning ticket(s) bought in CA won a quarter million dollar cash each.

Also, 11 tickets matched 4 of the 5 lotto numbers, as well as the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000. Additional prizes won Tuesday night included 163 tickets that matched four lotto numbers and won $500. Other prizes won included 482 tickets that matched 3 white numbers in addition to the Mega Ball and won $200.

There were 78,484 Mega Millions winning tickets sold in the state of New York. There were 39242 top prize winning tickets sold in the state of New York. There was a single lucky New Yorker matched 4 lotto numbers and also the Mega Ball with Megaplier and won $40,000.

With 9 different prize levels, there were 793,616 winning tickets sold across U.S. in the Tuesday, December 12th, 2023 drawing.

Mega Millions is a consortium involving 44 state lotteries. Roughly 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back on the players through prize winnings. Roughly 15% goes to commission of retailers and lottery operation expenses. About 35% total sales is used in government services, education and charities in the participating lottery states. Mega Millions drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday night at 10:59 PM Eastern Time. The minimum Mega Millions advertised grand prize starts at 40 million dollar. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal annual installments. Winners may select one-time lump sum cash payout instead.
