The jackpot for Friday's Mega Millions drawing skyrockets to $535,000,000

Wall Street is not the only place where fortunes are made and lost these days. One fortune will be up for grabs on Friday, when Mega Millions lottery has $535,000,000 on the line. The lump-sum cash payout stands at an estimated $$265.6 million. Mega Millions' grand prize increased because no one matched all 6 winning numbers drawn Tuesday night. The winning numbers drawn Tuesday night, August 20th, 2024 were 05, 20, 26, 49, 51 with Mega Ball number 24 and Megaplier X4. The Mega Millions jackpot has been rolling over for 22 draws since Friday, June 7th, 2024.The last jackpot was won by one lucky ticket sold in IL, matched all six numbers for a $560 million top prize.
Even though the grand prize was not awarded Tuesday evening, Mega Millions had some big winners. There was a single lucky player that matched the first 5 white ball numbers and won the second prize. The 1 lucky ticket(s) purchased in AZ, each won $1,000,000 cash by matching all 5 white ball numbers.
Also, 17 tickets matched 4 of the 5 lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000. Other prizes won Tuesday evening included 450 tickets that matched four white numbers and won $500. There were 1162 tickets that correctly matched 3 white ball numbers as well as the Mega Ball and also won $200.
With nine ways to win, there were a total of 1,890,700 winning tickets sold across the nation in the Tuesday, August 20th, 2024 drawing.
Mega Millions is a consortium of 44 state lotteries. About 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back towards the players through prize winnings. About 15% goes to commission of retailers and lottery operating costs. Roughly 35% total sales is used in government services, education and charities in the participating states. Mega Millions drawings are held 2 times a week every Tuesday and Friday night at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Mega Millions uses a 5/70+1/25 matrix to randomly pick winning numbers. The minimum Mega Millions grand prize starts at 40 million dollar. Its annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly payments. Winners can select one-time lump sum cash payout option instead.
