Friday's Mega Millions jackpot increases to $201 million; One player won the second prize

Friday's Mega Millions lottery jackpot leaped to $201 million, since nobody hit all 6 winning numbers drawn Tuesday night. The cash value for Friday stands at an estimated $135.9 million. Tuesday's $184 million is the total grand prize amount - before taxes - if the prize is taken in annual installments. The numbers from Tuesday, April 6th, 2021 drawing were 01-19-20-32-42 with Mega Ball number 17 and Megaplier 3. Nobody won the Mega Millions jackpot in the past 779 draws since Friday, October 4th, 2013.The last jackpot was won by a lucky ticket sold in Maryland, matched all six numbers for a $189 million top prize.
Although the jackpot was not hit Tuesday evening, Mega Millions did produce some big winners. There was only one ticket that correctly matched all 5 numbers and won the 2nd prize. The one lucky ticket(s) bought in , each won $1,000,000 cash by matching all 5 white ball numbers.
Additional major winners Tuesday evening included 19 tickets that matched four white ball numbers plus the Mega Ball and won $10,000. Also, 401 tickets matched 4 of the 5 lotto numbers. Those tickets are each worth $500. Other prizes won included 984 tickets that matched 3 white numbers as well as the Mega Ball and won $200.
There were 104,246 Mega Millions winning tickets sold in the state of New York. There were 52123 grand prize winning tickets sold in the state of New York. There was one lucky New York winner matched 4 white ball numbers plus the Mega Ball with Megaplier and won $30,000.
With nine different prize tiers, there were a total of 1,411,222 winning tickets sold across U.S. in the Tuesday, April 6th, 2021 drawing.
Mega Millions is a consortium involving 44 state lotteries. On average, 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back towards the players in prize winnings. About 15% is used to as retailer commissions and lottery operation expenses. Around 35% total sales is used in government services, education and charities in the member lottery states. Mega Millions lottery uses a 5/70+1/25 system from which winning numbers are chosen. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to spend $1 extra to purchase the Megaplier, which multiplies the original prizes 2 to 5 times but not grand prize. The overall odds of winning is about 1 to 14. The odds of matching 6 Mega Millions numbers are about 1 in 302 million. The minimum Mega Millions jackpot starts at $40 million. Its annuity option is paid in 30 equal annual payments. Winners may choose one time lump-sum cash payout instead.
