Monday's Powerball jackpot leaps to $165,000,000; One second prize ticket sold

The jackpot for Monday Powerball lottery built to $165,000,000 (cash value $$83.8 million) after nobody hit all 5 lotto numbers plus the Powerball number Saturday night. The numbers from Saturday, September 14th, 2024 drawing were 29-34-38-48-56 with Power Ball 16. The Powerball grand prize has been growing for eleven draws since Wednesday, August 21st, 2024. One lucky winner from CA walked away with 44,000,000 grand prize in Monday, August 19th, 2024 drawing.
Even though the grand prize was not hit Saturday evening, some players still walked away with large winnings. There was a sole second prize winning ticket from Saturday night's Powerball drawing, matching the first 5 numbers but not the Powerball number. The one second prize winning ticket(s) bought in CO won $1 million cash.
Other prizes won Saturday evening included 9 tickets that matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. 6 additional tickets at this prize level were also wisely purchased with the Power Play option that multiplied the prize 4 times to $40,000 cash! Also, 298 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers. Those tickets are each worth $100. There were 94 tickets matched 4 white ball with Power Play option, doubled the winnings to a total win of $200 each! Additional prizes won Saturday night included 724 tickets that matched 3 white numbers as well as the Powerball and won $100. 207 additional tickets at this prize level were also bought with the Power Play option that doubled winnings to $200 cash.
With 9 prize levels, there were 563,030 tickets nationwide won $0 prizes in the Saturday, September 14th, 2024 drawing.
Powerball game is played in 42 states, D.C. and the US Virgin Islands. Powerball drawings are held 2 times a week every Wednesday and Saturday night at 10:59 PM Eastern Time. To play, choose 5 numbers from a set of 69 then select one Powerball number from a set of 26. Each play costs $2. Players can choose to pay $1 extra to buy the Power Play, which multiplies the original winnings except grand prize. The overall odds of winning is about 1 to 32. The chances of winning Powerball jackpot are about 1 in 292 million. The minimum Powerball advertised jackpot is $40 million. Its annuity option is paid in 30 yearly increment installments. Winners may select one time lump-sum cash payout option instead.
