Wednesday's Powerball jackpot jumps to $168 million; Three second prize tickets sold

The grand prize in America's favorite Powerball lottery is on the move. Because no one correctly matched all six winning numbers in Saturday's drawing, the jackpot will increase to an estimated $168 million! The cash option stands at an estimated $117 million. The numbers from Saturday night, May 8th, 2021 were 12, 17, 20, 21, 26 and Powerball number was 08. The Powerball grand prize has been growing for 129 draws since Saturday, February 15th, 2020. A single lucky winner from Michigan walked away with $70.00 million top prize in Wednesday, February 12th, 2020 drawing.
Though there was no grand prize winner Saturday evening, Powerball did produce some big winners. There were three lucky tickets matched the first five numbers but missed Powerball number, which won the second prize. The 2 second prize winning ticket(s) purchased in Maryland(1) and New York(1) won $1,000,000 cash. The other one second prize winner(s) from Iowa also bought Power Play, which doubled the prize to $2,000,000 cash win!
Also, 26 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers, as well as the Powerball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000. 7 additional tickets of this prize level were also wisely purchased with the Power Play option that multiplied winnings 4 times to $40,000 cash!
There were 54,807 Powewrball winning tickets sold in the state of New York. The lucky New York ticket won the second prize was sold from . A single ticket sold in New York matched 4 white ball numbers as well as the Powerball. The lucky ticket holder will receive $10,000 cash. 192 tickets were sold in the state of New York which matched either 4 or 3+1 numbers. The lucky ticket holders will receive $100 each. 38 tickets were sold in the state of New York which matched either 4 or 3+1 numbers with Power Play. The lucky ticket holders will receive $200 each.
With nine ways to win, the Saturday night's drawing created 670,215 winning tickets nationwide with a total amount of $0 prizes.
Powerball can be played in 42 states, D.C. and the US Virgin Islands. Powerball game uses a 5/69+1/26 system from which winning numbers are chosen. Each play costs $2. Players can choose to spend 1 extra dollar to purchase the Power Play, which increases the prizes except grand prize. The odds of winning any prizes is about 1 to 32. The odds of matching 6 Powerball numbers are about 1 in 292 million. The minimum Powerball grand prize is 40 million dollar. Its annuity option is paid in 30 graduated payments in 29 years. Winners may choose one time lump sum cash payout instead.
