Mega Millions jackpot breaks to $278 million Friday; Four second prize tickets sold

The estimated grand prize for Tuesday night's drawing was $244 million. According to official Mega Millions, no player matched every number and the jackpot went to an estimated $278 million. The lump-sum cash payout will be an estimated $193 million. The numbers from Tuesday, January 4th, 2022 drawing were 04, 06, 16, 21, 22 and the Mega Ball was 01, Megaplier was 3. The Mega Millions grand prize has been rolling over for 857 draws since Friday, October 4th, 2013.The last jackpot was won by one lucky ticket sold in Maryland, matched all six numbers for a $189 million top prize.
Even though the jackpot was not hit Tuesday evening, some players still walked away with big money. There were four lucky tickets matched the first five numbers but missed Mega Ball number, which won the second prize. The four second prize winning ticket(s) bought in won a quarter million dollar cash each.
Additional major winners Tuesday evening included 34 tickets that matched 4 white ball numbers plus the Mega Ball and won $10,000. Also, 863 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers. Those tickets are each worth $500. Other prizes won included 1880 tickets that matched 3 white numbers together with Mega Ball and won $200.
There were 169,164 Mega Millions winning tickets sold in the state of New York. There were 84582 top prize winning tickets sold in the state of New York. A ticket sold in New York matched 4 white ball numbers in addition to the Mega Ball. The lucky ticket holder will receive $1,000,000 cash. A single ticket sold in New York matched 4 lotto numbers plus the Mega Ball with Megaplier option purchased. The lucky ticket holder will collect $30,000.
With nine different ways to win, there were 1,940,382 winning tickets sold across the nation in the Tuesday, January 4th, 2022 drawing.
Mega Millions is an U.S. popular lottery game sold in 44 member states as a shared jackpot game. On average, 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back on the players through prize winnings.
